During Women's History Month, we celebrate women who paved the way in their field. Charlotte Cooper Sterry was an English female tennis player. At the 1900 Olympics in Paris, she became the first female Olympic tennis champion as well as the first individual female Olympic champion. #pcssdproud #serveall

Today is Leap Day! Leap years exist because it actually takes the planet a little bit more than a year to orbit the sun. That time is rounded down to the 365 days we recognize as a typical year, those nearly six extra hours don't disappear. Leap years are added to account for the difference. The extra day keeps calendars and seasons from gradually falling out of sync and impacting harvesting, planting and other cycles based on the seasons. #pcssdproud #serveall

During Black History Month we celebrate Black artists with an Arkansas connection. Sonny Boy Williamson II, born as Alex Miller, was a blues harmonica player, singer and songwriter. He spent time in Helena-West Helena who influenced music in 1950s and 60s. #pcssdproud #serveall

The Griot Players, a group of SYLVAN HILLS HIGH students, visited two feeder elementary schools as part of the school's theatre arts program touring group. The Griot Players put on a Black History Month performance for students at OAKBROOKE and WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON ELEMENTARY. It was a great way to expose the students to Black History through theatre arts.
