LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Mills University Studies' forensics and debate teams were among four schools that competed in the LR West / Pinnacle View Tournament this past weekend. The Comets boasted 17 competitors all of whom performed at their best!
FORENSICS RESULTS- Lila Thompson competed in Poetry and finished first.
- Destiny Clark competed in Prose and finished first.
- Seven MUSHS students entered the impromptu speaking contest with Eddie Watkins finishing first, Jon Brady Hicks second and Chance Bradford third.
DEBATE RESULTS
- Public Forum, all Mills teams had at least one win.
- Chance Bradford / Madison Bowman and Gavin Butler / Alyson Tinsley both tied for third.
- Eddie Watkins and Jon Brady Hicks had a spotless 4 - 0 record. They won the final round finishing first.
- Speaker awards went to Chance Bradford, Gavin Phillips, with second place going to Eddie Watkins and first place speaker going to Jon Brady Hicks.
- Individual Impromptu Debate (P: Nine MUSHS debaters battled in a competitive field.
- Vanessa Anderson and Xavion McLennan made the quarterfinals.
- McClennan then advanced to semifinals, ultimately finishing 3rd.
- George Belt finished in 9th.
- Individual Impromptu Debate speaker awards went to Xavion McClennan and George Belt.
Four Comets qualified for the state championship tournament in April: Jon Brady Hicks, Eddie Watkins, George Belt and Xavion McClennan. Because of the combined efforts of all of our hard-working competitors, this speech and debate team won the tournament on total points, and received first place sweepstakes.
