LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Members of the Speech and Debate Team from Mills University Studies High had one of their best tournaments of the year! The team competed in the Fayetteville March Madness Speech Invitational March 1 -2.
Out of a squad of eight students, five competitors advanced to semi final rounds, and four competitors advanced to finals rounds.
Specific achievements:
- Jimiah Cooper advanced to semi finals in Informative Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking and finals in Duet Improvisation
- Chance Bradford advanced to semi finals in Extemporaneous Speaking and finals in Duet Improvisation
- Eddie Watkins advanced to finals in Duet Improvisation
- Jon Brady Hicks advanced to finals in Duet Improvisation
- Eddie Watkins placed in the top 10 in Congressional Debate
- Reader's Theatre group placed second. Eddie Watkins, Chance Bradford, Jimiah Cooper, Jon Brady Hicks, Melvin Henderson, Jayden McBride, Madison Bowman and Willow Toney made up the cast.
Four students dominated the competition in Duet Improvisation with the team of Hicks/Cooper placing second and Watkins/Bradford placing first.
As a result of the competition, Jimiah Cooper qualified for the upcoming state tournament in Extemporaneous Speaking, this makes her fourth event for the year.
The team closes out the season in April at the Arkansas State Speech and Debate Tournament.
