(DARDANELLE) - Six members of the Mills University Studies High School Speech and Debate team competed in the Dardanelle Sand Lizard classic on January 26-27 in various events.
- Chance Bradford was a finalist in three events:
- 2nd Place Impromptu Speaking
- 3rd Place Extemporaneous Speaking
- 8th Place Congressional Debate
- Eddie Watkins placed 6th in Congressional Debate
- Jimiah Cooper placed 3rd in Varsity IPDA Speaking
Bradford has qualified for the Arkansas State Speech and Debate Tournament in five different events. Melvin Henderson just missed qualifying for final rounds, but had a successful 2 win, 1 loss record in preliminaries.
The team won its first championship sweepstakes award of the season.
Other schools competing at the tournament included Don Tyson School of Innovation, Springdale Har-Ber, Russellville, Fort Smith Southside, Conway and Sylvan Hills.
Four members of the team will compete to qualify for the National Speech and Debate Tournament at a district event in Bentonville later this February. The entire team will compete next in the Fayetteville March Madness tournament to be held in March.
