LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Cadets from Mills University Studies High School Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) recently completed the JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge. Camp STEM Dragon took place at Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee and Milan National Guard Training Center in Lavinia, Tennessee June 4-9, 2023.
The Mills University Studies High School Army JROTC Comet Battalion selected nine Cadets for participation this year. The Cadets from Mills were Cadet Private Willie Allen, Cadet Private Luis Baldelamar-Perez, Cadet Private Eathan Collins, Cadet Private Olivia Dunn, Cadet Private Angel Green, Cadet Private Kamren Hendrix, Cadet Private Brandon Holt, Cadet Private Deondria Pearson and Cadet Private Isaiah Santiago.
More than 214 cadets from 19 Memphis Shelby County School District Army JROTC Programs and 3 Arkansas Army JROTC Programs, participated in the week-long STEM Camp and Traditional JCLC Leadership Training Camp. Cadets completed two days Medical, Aerospace and Cyber STEM training activities hosted by Lane College’s Faculty Staff and Students and two days of traditional JCLC consisting of The Cadet Challenge (Fitness Competition), water safety, team building, leadership reaction, obstacle course and military history at Parkers Crossroads Civil War Battle Field, Henderson County, Tennessee.
Cadets Eathan Collins and Isaiah Santiago were collectively honored to be in the best platoon recognized during JCLC. The best platoon was awarded for their collective cadet challenge scores, best platoon chant, drill and ceremony marching, JCLC Cadet Board results and other JCLC competitive events. Santiago was individually awarded for his efforts in the Cadet Challenge 1 Mile Run, with the male cadets third fastest time.
