February is Black History Month. Vice Admiral Edward Moore Jr. was the highest ranking African American in the Navy at the time of his retirement. Moore's family moved to Little Rock while he was in high school. He was inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 1999.
Robinson High School will host a cheer clinic for grades K-6 on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 9am - 12pm. $30 per cheerleader includes a t-shirt. Students will perform on Feb. 21 during halftime of the basketball games.

February is American Heart Month. Help raise awareness for heart disease by participating in "Wear Red Day" this Friday (Feb. 7). Together we are empowering women to beat heart disease and stroke, giving them more time to do amazing things.

Last week was the beginning of our Reading Challenge. All students are expected to read 5 days a week 30 minutes per night. The information needs to be logged via their Social Studies Classes as provided by teachers. This is a part of students grades as well. Please check with your child and make sure they log the minutes read for last week and incoming weeks. RMS Admin Team will be working with students to personally set goals for incoming assessments. AVID is currently accepting applications for next year. AVID is an elective course that prepares students for college. AVID students take rigorous classes and are taught study skills, note taking, time management, writing and research skills. We support students by having regular tutoring, field trips, guest speakers, and lots of fun! Space is limited, so come by the counselor's office to pick up an application or see Dr. Grimmett at RMS now!
Eli Keller has two kids who both attend PCSSD schools. His fiancée, Mary, has 3 kids. When he's not chasing around the kids, Eli volunteers for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Arkansas.

Alicia Gillen, board secretary, has 3 children - Shayla Dixon 22, Nicole Gillen 13, Julia Gillen 12. She also has a dog named Maggie who is 15. In her spare time, she enjoys antiquing, traveling and cooking.

Shelby Thoma and his wife, Leigh, have been married 25 years and 4 children: Simone-24, Nathan-23, Amelia- 20, and Novi-3. His favorite hobby is running and he also enjoys spending time with his youth group.
Brian Maune and his wife, Jennifer, have been married nearly 14 years. They have 5 kids and another due in May! Brian's hobbies include family travel and outdoors activities like hunting, fishing and camping.
