It has been a difficult day for us all. We lost a member of our PCSSD and Robinson family today. Officer Victor Montgomery passed away from injuries sustained in an accident this morning during traffic duty at the elementary school. We are deeply saddened by this loss and our thoughts go out to Officer Montgomery and his family. You will never be forgotten, Paw Paw.

Today is V-J Day, marking the end of World War II. President Harry Truman announced on this day in 1945 that Japan had surrendered!

It's the first day of school! Send us your first day of school pictures at communication@pcssd.org. #pcssdproud #serveall

'Twas the night before school starts,
And you could feel it in the air.
The creatures were stirring:
Hornets, Comets. Senators, and Bears!
The Hornets were buzzing
With excitement for the year,
As Maumelle got ready
To hoot, holler, and cheer!
The Comets are zooming,
Moving at lightning speed
For a great, new school year,
Guaranteed!
The Senators are ready
To make their mark.
Leading in the community
From the school to the park.
And the Bears are waking
From summer hibernation,
To take on the school year
Ready and unshaken.
So go to bed
And get some rest
As we begin tomorrow anew
To make this school year the best!

Meet Breeann Bowman, our new 5th grade teacher!
"Hello! My name is Breeann Bowman. I am a first year teacher and working on my masters at the University of Central Arkansas. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was five! I’m so thrilled to make that dream a reality at RES!"

Thoughtful Thursday: In addition to working on education skills this summer, also spend time teaching kids to be kind. PBS Kids has a Kindness is Everywhere coloring page to fill with drawings to represent acts of kindness.

Today is National Book Lovers Day! What is your favorite spot to curl up with a good book?

One way to avoid the summer slide is to continue reading. A number of organizations offer programs to encourage reading during the summer. Imagination Library has a list of books for all grade levels.
