January is School Board Appreciation Month and we asked our board members to share a little about themselves.
Stephen Delaney likes reading newspapers on microfilm at the library. He enjoys the old political cartoons and Cynthia Howell/George Bentley stories covering past Arkansas K-12 education issues. Jon Kennedy is his favorite cartoonist but George Fisher is a close second.
One thing he's learned during the pandemic is just how crucial public education is for EVERYONE including those without school-age children. We all need healthy, safe, and functional public schools!
Thank you, Stephen, for your dedication to PCSSD!

Dear RMS Families,
Please note that there has been a change to our MEGA-Fest Celebration. Due to the high numbers of Covid -19 cases in Arkansas, we have made some changes that will be in the best interest of students and staff. The biggest change is that we will not be in the gym for the celebration. We will live stream the performances and activities in the gymnasium and students will watch the performances in the classrooms or at home virtually (please see the link below). We still intend to have concessions as well as movie time. Concessions will be in the cafeteria and students have a good understanding of guidelines to follow when they are eating. Students that have bought tickets already will receive concession items (hot dogs and sweet treats). Below is our schedule and we will have door prizes throught-out the celebration. With this shift, it does allow both online and face to face students a chance to be a part of the event. Thanks for understanding, it should be a fun celebration! Have a great night.

Our Robinson Volunteers are AMAZING!
Even with limited access and following CDC guidelines, parents and community members are still volunteering in various aspects for the greater good of students and staff.
Volunteers have continued a long standing tradition here at RMS…going over and beyond to make a difference.
Besides actual participation in volunteering for events, Volunteers can count their travel and preparation time for each activity. If you have donated and shopped for donations for teacher gifts, luncheons/breakfasts, etc.; it all counts towards hours.
Please take the time to complete the PALS form for documentation of hours contributed.
If you would rather email your hours, email to:
tscott4418@pcssd.org
Please have your hours submitted by Friday 11/20/20.
Thank you again for the gift of your time and making a difference.
First Semester
PALS Hours
Cut-off Date---------------------------------------------------------Friday,Nov. 20, 2020
Include volunteer hours from 3/14/20 – 11/20/20.

The following items can be found at Five Below: lanyards, color changing led speakers, fuzzy animal keychains, spa face masks, journals, and earbuds
The following treats have also been a hit: full-sized Starbursts, Skittles, Sour Patch Kids, Sour Punch Straws, Reese’s, Snickers, Twix, Hershey’s and snack-sized bags of chips.
If you can help, it would be greatly appreciated!

Dear RMS Families-
Due to increased enrollment & the need to continue practicing physical distance it is necessary that we make adjustments to student’s schedules. This process has begun and the majority of adjustments should be complete by the end of the week (September 4, 2020).
Please be patient with us with the understanding that we are doing everything humanly possible to navigate these adjustments as efficiently & effectively as possible.
Please note that the counseling department is not making and cannot make any additional schedule changes until this process has been completed. Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education. We appreciate your valued support during this transition.
Sincerely,
RMS Team

Dismissal times are for both car and bus riders. District offices will dismiss at 1pm as well. There will be no district athletics events on Thursday, August 27. No decision has been made about school or athletic activities for Friday at this time.

Dear RMS Parents & Students,
I hope you are having a wonderful Sunday. A few reminders going into this week. Please make sure students are not dropped off before 8:15am. Staff will not be available to supervise students and ensure appropriate physical distance if students are dropped off early. Parents who drop students off before the 8:15am time will receive a call from administration. This is important as we work to create a safe environment for students.
We were hopeful that the Schoology Platform would be stable and ready for teachers as well as students on the first day of school. However, Schoology is not as stable as we hoped but the district is working in partnership with Schoology to correct all errors. We expect that it will be a stable platform by the end of the week. In the meantime, we have developed a workaround to support communication in regards to how to access school assignments and google classroom meets. Please see the attached link and follow these simple instructions for the week.
Instructions (Click This Link):
Look carefully at your schedule.
Click on your teacher's name at the time of the class period.

Reminder Correction:
Please remember that we need to create a safe environment for all stakeholders, to support with this process, outside food will not be allowed to be dropped off for students. If a student forgets their lunch, they can receive a free school lunch this year.
Car rider students will receive a car rider number on the first day. That will need to be displayed in your passenger side dashboard to the pick up line to run quickly and smoothly while maintaining social distancing. Please Do Not park in the parking to pick up students.
Parents are asked to minimize in person contact with the office as much as possible. We will do our very best to take care of all matters by phone.

Dear Band Families,
In preparation for instrument inspection and inventory, PCSSD has scheduled district-owned instruments to be returned to the school buildings on Monday, May 4, and Tuesday, May 5. Both high school and middle school students will return their district-owned instrument to Robinson Middle School. I will be at RMS to collect instruments between 9:00am - 3:00pm. Let me know if your family requires an alternative time. We will be practicing social distancing and safety measures during instrument return.
Instrument inspection is crucial because this is how we determine what repairs need to be made in order to keep your child's district-owned instrument in good playing condition. If you were unable to pick-up your child's personally owned instrument on April 13, you may do so during this time.
Thank you!

RMS Families,
Please remind your child to fill out the survey placed in Senator Scroll. This survey will help us better prepare for Locker Pick Up Days. If your child wants to fill out the link and does not have access to Senator Scroll for any reason, I have attached the link at the bottom of this email. Thank you!

Get & Go Packet Procedures for AMI Pick- Up
Date: April 9th- 11th
Note: Please remember to follow the CDC guidelines and practice safe distancing.
Drive into the bus lane in the front of the school.
Before exiting your vehicle make sure there are no more than four (4) people in line near the container waiting to retrieve documents.
Grab a pair of gloves from the box on the metal cart
Underneath the awning near the front doors is a Large Wooden Storage Container.
Inside the wooden container are the hard copies of student AMI packets in plastic containers that are labeled by grade level and subject for Math, English, Science, and Social Studies.
Additionally there are containers labeled Music (Band and Choir), Art, and Business (Keyboarding, CTE, Robotics, and EAST Lab).
Please make sure that you retrieve one packet from each container specific to your individual child. How can my child submit their work once it is completed? It is our preference that your child takes a picture of the completed document and email it to your designated teacher. This can be done via cellphone or other devices. If this is a difficulty please contact your teacher.
Thank you!

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS FOR AMI INSTRUCTION: We understand that many families may experience challenges in scheduling. The most important expectation is completing and submitting assignments as close as possible to when they are due. Teachers will offer digital face to face lessons with students 2-4 days per week. Students should make an effort to attend live instruction. Sessions will be recorded. RMS Band News
Dear Band Families,
The Robinson Middle School intermediate and advanced bands will perform at Mills High School on Thursday, February 13. Our tentative performance time is 4:50pm. We will perform and receive critiques from a panel of adjudicators. This event is designed to help our district's bands prepare for our formal concert assessment that takes place in March. Transportation will be provided to and from the event. Students should be picked up at RMS around 6:30pm. Students must wear concert black (solid black) dress clothes. Gentlemen must have a long sleeve dress shirt with a collar and ladies are strongly encouraged (but not required) to wear a knee length dress/skirt. Band Boosters are providing gold bow-ties and pearls. No other jewelry or accessories will be allowed on stage. All students with long hair are required to braid or tightly bun their hair. Dress code will be strictly enforced. The performance is free and open to the public.
If acquiring black clothes/shoes or transporting your child after the event is a hardship, please, let me know. We are here to help in anyway we can. We are glad to help with clothing, transportation, or whatever supports your family or student may need in order to fully participate. Nobody in the Robinson Bands gets left behind because of money or logistics. Simply, communicate your needs.
We will be performing Marchus Maximus (Michael Story), Armory (Randall Standridge), and Night Fury (Carol Chambers). Encourage your student to focus in class and practice at home. Parental interest and support is critical to our success. Please, come listen to our students perform. We hope to represent our community well and make you proud!

Evening RMS Families,
Last week was the beginning of our Reading Challenge. All students are expected to read 5 days a week 30 minutes per night. The information needs to be logged via their Social Studies Classes as provided by teachers. This is a part of students grades as well. Please check with your child and make sure they log the minutes read for last week and incoming weeks. RMS Admin Team will be working with students to personally set goals for incoming assessments. More information will come in the newsletter on Friday! Have a great night.

Congratulations to PCSSD athletic director, Danny Ebbs, on his selection to be placed into the Arkansas Activities Association Arkansas High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame. What an honor! Congrats, Danny! http://ow.ly/IFMA50y45kT

Why Attendance is Important in Helping Every Student Succeed?
One of the most important things your child can do to reach the goal of success is also one of the most basic: attend school every day on time! By attending class regularly, your child is more likely to keep up with daily lessons and assignments and take quizzes and tests on time. Research has shown that your child's regular attendance may be the greatest factor influencing his/her academic success.
Achievement: Students who attend school regularly are more likely to pass
reading and math assessments than students who do not.
Opportunity: For older students, being in school every day gives them a chance to learn more about college and scholarship opportunities and to learn the important information to build a successful academic record.
Exposure to the English language: Regular school attendance can also help students who are learning English by giving them the opportunity to master the skills and information they need more quickly and accurately.
Being part of the school community: Just by being present at school, your child is learning how to be a good citizen by participating in the school community, learning valuable social skills, and developing a broader world view.
What parents can do:
Follow the school's guidelines and attendance policy and report excused absences immediately. Reviews the school's rules and make sure you understand who you need to contact if your child is going to be absent.
Take an active role. Stay involved with your child's daily experiences at school by asking how the school day went, and then listening carefully to what your child shares with you — both the successes and struggles. Make it a point to meet your child's teacher(s) and friends.
Keep updated on school events and announcements. Read the school documents that your child brings home and
Try to limit the amount of time that your child misses school due to medical appointments or illness. If possible, avoid scheduling doctor's appointments during the school day. Allow your child to stay home only in the case of contagious or severe illnesses.
Schedule family events with your child's school schedule in mind. Plan holiday celebrations or family trips during weekends or school vacations. In the case of family emergencies or unexpected trips, talk to your child's teacher(s) as far in advance as possible and set up a way that your child can work ahead or bring important homework on the trip.

Your time is valuable and we are so appreciative and grateful of how very generous you all are in sharing yours with the students and staff of Robinson Middle!
-- Robinson Middle School has received the honor of having the highest number of volunteer hours for the last 14 years!!! Truly a testament to the commitment of this community to serve the students and staff of Robinson in being the very best!
